Cutting and installation of graphite packing rings
1. Select the appropriate packing, and use a cutting machine to cut off the packing ring of the required length. If there is no packing cutting machine, proceed according to the packing length L=(shaft diameter d+packing widths)X1.07X Cutting, generally on the rotating shaft, use 90° straight cutting, and use 45° cutting on the valve. Never attempt to wrap packing around a stuffing box to determine length. Or wrap the packing around a tube of the same O.D. as the stem, compressing it tightly but not stretching the packing. Then cut it into a sample ring and verify that it fills the space correctly and that there are no voids at the interface. The sample ring can then be used as a standard to cut other packing rings. If these finished products are finished on a flat surface, if the packing is soft or easily deformed, a small belt can be made according to the sample ring, and then the rest of the stuffing ring can be made according to the rope.
2. When the graphite packing ring is used in a valve, the packing cross section is the same as the valve space, which is a preload ring: when used in a pump, the packing cross section and the valve space (about 0.3mm-0.6mm) make the shaft and The packing has a leakage gap, which is good for lubrication and heat dissipation.
3. Install packing rings one at a time, making sure each packing is free of dust or other debris. Packing rings should be lubricated, if necessary, with the same clean oil used on the stem. Install each packing ring staggered at 90°. The rings are slowly pulled apart in the axial direction, and the radial distance is enough to allow the rings to be installed on the shaft. Use professional filling tools to tighten each packing ring. When enough packing rings are installed, the glands extend to 25% of the packing thickness of the stuffing box for valves and 50% of the packing thickness for pumps. Close it with a follower, which can be used to increase the tightness. Remember that the follower is just a supplement; it keeps all packing rings in place and prevents packing movement. In the reciprocating pump, guide rings should also be placed at both ends and in the middle of the stuffing box to maintain its concentric movement and the gravity of the plunger.
4. After installing the packing ring, tighten the bolts. In order to obtain a certain pressure on each nut, it is recommended to tighten the nuts with a wrench or related metering device. Note: If the device is in a leak-free state at this time, it may cause the packing to burn. It is recommended to tighten the bolts slowly until the leakage reaches the allowable range.
