How To Install Spiral Wound Gaskets Connection Flange Seal
SunPass Spiral Wound Gaskets are made of a preformed thin metallic strip combined with a soft sealing composite material, wound together under pressure to energize the sealing element to act like a spring when compressed between two flange faces. The sealing element can be used stand-alone or in conjunction with inner and/or outer rings depending on the application.

The following points should be noted when installing metal spiral wound gaskets:
1. Place the spiral wound gasket on one face of the flange, making sure the inner diameter of the gasket is aligned with the inner diameter of the flange, and the metal band portion of the gasket faces the bolt holes of the flange.
2. Align the other flange to the first flange, making sure the bolt holes of the two flanges are aligned. Put the bolts through the bolt holes. Use a wrench or torque wrench to initially tighten the bolts, but do not tighten them completely.
3. Check whether the gasket is properly compressed and whether any part is protruding or uneven. Adjust the position of the gasket to ensure that it is evenly distributed on the sealing surface of the flange.
4. Use a torque wrench to make a final tightening of the bolts. Make sure to tighten the bolts in the correct order and torque value to avoid uneven pressure. The gasket cannot be installed skewed, and the pressure should be uniform.
5. Check the flange connection for leaks.
