Clear old gland packing
The old packing needs to be cleaned to ensure the sealing effect of the new packing after installation. When cleaning, it is necessary to pay attention not to damage the valve stem, sealing disc, especially the valve stem, so as to prevent the medium in the valve from penetrating into the packing due to scratches. Internally cause the packing seal to fail or harden, which in turn aggravates the damage to the valve stem. After all the old packing have been removed, new packing can be replaced. When replacing new packing, choose packing that meet the requirements in size and performance. It is not allowed to use high instead of low or big instead of small.
Installation of new gland packing
Cut off the appropriate length, and cut the packing head/tail diagonally at 45° into a single circle. Press the cut forming rings into the sealing chamber in turn, and the joints of the two packing rings are staggered by 180° until the sealing chamber is filled with packing, and then the gland is tightened. This method can make all the packing very evenly stressed, but this way of replacing the packing first needs to measure the length of the required packing and cut them one by one. Suitable for causing packing failure or packing waste. It is also very troublesome to replace the packing installed in this way. It is necessary to take out one by one, especially the last few packing have a narrow operating space. Even if professional tools are used, the operation is time-consuming and laborious.
If you purchase the forming ring directly, although it can ensure the complete and effective sealing of the interface, it not only increases the unit price, but also the use range of the forming ring is wider than that of the packing. Therefore, this method is not a convenient and quick installation method.
Cut one end of the packing with an acute angle cut, place it at the bottom of the valve stem sealing cavity, and then wind it on the valve stem like a compression spring, and then cut an acute angle joint at the other end, and the two joints are staggered by 90° to avoid The valve leaks due to the uneven stress on the packing, and the production quality of the acute angles at both ends of the packing will directly affect the use effect of the packing. This method is simple and quick to install and disassemble the packing, but it is easy to cause uneven stress on the packing. No matter which installation method is used, the valve stem must be cleaned, polished and smooth, and a layer of grease is applied to the valve stem and the wall of the packing cavity. Ensure its lubricity.
