The difference between mechanical seal and gland packing seal
The main difference between mechanical seals and gland seals is the method used to prevent leakage in rotating equipment.
Mechanical seals require precise alignment and fit of two components. These parts are pushed together by elastic elements or spring systems.
In contrast, gland packing seals use their compressive force combined with the fiber material to create an effective seal. This is accomplished by using a braided rope wrapped around the shaft, which fills the physical space between the shaft itself and the pump housing.
